Elect a Criminal Court Judge: Key Issues

Elect a judge who knows the law, respects every person in the courtroom, and has the experience to make just, wise decisions.

Stand with Joe

1. Public Safety Through Fairness and Equal Justice

Every person who enters a courtroom deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and equal justice under the law. For 34 years, Joe has fought to uphold these principles.  On the bench, he will support strong accountability for offenders, smart sentencing that protects the public, and policies that keep Memphis neighborhoods safe.

2. Accountability and Smart Sentencing for Safer Streets

A strong justice system demands real accountability to deliver lasting public safety. Joe’s more than 24 years on the Shelby County Drug Court Foundation board reflects his belief that addressing root causes like addiction and mental health — paired with meaningful consequences — produces better outcomes for victims, families, and entire communities. Where treatment and structured supervision can safely break the cycle of reoffending, it is the smarter choice for Memphis. Joe will use smart sentencing to protect the public.

3. Support for Veterans

Veterans facing challenges in the justice system deserve specialized support, but public safety must remain the priority. As a current board member of the Shelby County Veterans’ Court Foundation, Joe has advocated for targeted interventions that hold offenders accountable, reduce recidivism, and keep our community safe — all while respecting constitutional rights and delivering equal justice.

4. Upholding Constitutional Rights with Public Safety in Mind

Joe has successfully argued constitutional cases before four courts, including the Tennessee Supreme Court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, securing reversals that protected defendants’ rights.  As a judge, he will continue respecting our constitutional protections, but always with a clear focus on community accountability and smart sentencing that enhances public safety.

5. A Safer, Stronger Memphis

Real public safety comes from a justice system that is swift, fair, and respected by the community it serves. Joe is committed to running an efficient, impartial courtroom that delivers equal justice while holding offenders accountable. Through smart sentencing and strong community oversight he will help build a safer Memphis where constitutional rights are protected and residents can thrive without fear.

6. Community Accountability

A judge answers to the community and must prioritize public safety above all. For decades, Joe has given back by raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities, supporting veterans, and serving on boards focused on smart sentencing and real accountability.  As a judge, he will have a  deep commitment to policies that reduce crime, protect victims, and strengthen Memphis neighborhoods.  Every decision a criminal court judge makes affects community safety — and Joe will always put public safety first
